Increased Visa Refusal Rates for Indian Nationals Coming to Canada

Businesses who send/bring Indian nationals to Canada either as business visitors or workers, should be aware that the government rate of refusals has increased dramatically in recent months. This is due to determinations by the Canadian government of increased levels of fraud and misrepresentation, and therefore, increased scrutiny.

Unfortunately, when there is a general ‘sweep’ to try to address a problem of this type, many legitimate applications often get caught in the dragnet, and also get refused as a result of the enhanced scrutiny.

Applicants and their sponsors need to be vigilant and ensure that all elements of an application – including, among other matters, applicant’s work history, education, and family information, as well as reason for need in Canada, etc. – are thoroughly documented. In some cases, a re-application may be needed, but ‘preventative maintenance’ is an important part of the success of cases, generally, and now particularly in India, where increased scrutiny is the reality.
